Foundation Scholarships

Scholarship Application

The Lake Washington College Foundation provides a variety of scholarships for students. Criteria for scholarship selection vary with each award, some based on a combination of academic performance and financial need, some based on program or life situation.

To see whether you are eligible for a College Foundation scholarship, review the following list carefully.  

New scholarships may be added during the application period - please check back again throughout the application period.

Please note that some scholarships have unique application forms and deadlines. For more information contact the employee listed or the Foundation Office.

ll Programs

Foundation General Scholarship

Scholarships in varying amounts will be awarded to students enrolled in any certificate or degree program at LWIT. Eligibility:

  1. Students must be enrolled at least half-time in a certificate or degree program at LWIT.

  2. Students must include a statement that should: demonstrate financial need by explaining their economic situation and why they need financial assistance outlining their educational goals.

  3. Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 either at LWIT, high school (if a new student), or at another college if student is transferring to LWIT.

  4. Criteria for Awarding: Scholarships may help with the student's overall educational needs (i.e. general living expenses, such as room and board, transportation, books or tools, child care, etc.), as well as tuition and fees.

  5. In determining recipients, special consideration will be given to students with exceptional need or who have overcome exceptional challenges.

  6. Number of students to receive the scholarship and award amounts to be decided at the discretion of the Director of Financial Aid each year.

  7. Students must agree to attend award ceremony or informal gathering to recognize recipient(s).

Keiretsu Forum NW Entrepreneurial Scholarship

Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to students currently enrolled in programs at LWIT who display the entrepreneurial spirit and drive that the Keiretsu Forum seeks to foster in the Northwest. 

Leona Hickman Educational Trust Scholarship

Scholarships in varying amounts will be awarded to students based on merit and need.  Open to students in all programs.  Student must be a resident of King County. 

Auto Collision Repair Technician

Dustin Willard Memorial Scholarship

Scholarships in varying amounts will be awarded to students enrolled in the Auto Collision Repair Technician program at LWIT.   

Baking Arts

 


 David Fleagle Scholarship

One $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled in the Baking Arts program at LWIT.  The David Fleagle Scholarship scholarship was created by David's parents, Bob & Carole Fleagle, in loving memory of their son, David Fleagle, LWIT Baking Arts student.


Child Care

Altrusa Scholarship

At least one scholarship of $1,000 award to provide financial assistance to a female student with dependent children. Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books and child care. Student must have minimum 2.0 GPA, attend at least half-time, enthusiasm for and commitment to the program in which you are enrolled, aspirations beyond college, demonstrated need, and attendance at Altrusa International of Lake Washington East dinner meeting for award presentation.

Bernice E. Tutt Award

Scholarships in varying amounts to be awarded for childcare expenses for students with dependent child/children. Preference given to students with children enrolled in the LWIT Early Learning Center.

Redmond Rotary Scholarship

One $500 award for childcare expenses for students with dependent child/children.  Preference given to students with children enrolled in the LWIT Early Learning Center. 

Environmental Horticulture

Jim Colman Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships in Varying amounts to be awarded to students who are enrolled in the Environmental Horticulture program at LWIT.  In memory of the late Jim Colman, founder of Northwest Nurseries and longtime supporter of LWIT Environmental Horticulture Program. One full-time Environmental Horticulture student's tuition per quarter, four quarters per year. Applicants must have completed at least one quarter in the Environmental Horticulture Program.

Environmental Horticulture Scholarship

Scholarships in varying amounts to be awarded to students enrolled in the Envrionmental Horticulture program. 


Patrick Early Fitness Scholarship

One $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled in the Fitness program at LWIT. 

I-BEST

Purpose of I-BEST: help ESL students transition into professional-technical programs The criteria for the I-BEST scholarship are:

  1. Applicants should be enrolled in I-BEST.

  2. Applicants need to qualify for resident tuition rate in order to qualify for this scholarship.

  3. I-BEST students who receive financial aid from other sources such as FAFSA, Opportunity Grant, Pell Grant, do not qualify for I-BEST scholarship.

  4. The I-BEST scholarship applies exclusively to tuition costs on a quarterly basis.

International Students

International Program Scholarship

Massage

Massage Envy Scholarship

Scholarships in varying amounts will awarded to students enrolled in the Massage Program at LWIT.

Nursing

Student Nurses Organization (SNO) Scholarship

Scholarships in varying amounts will be awarded to students enrolled in the Nursing program at LWIT.  The purpose of the SNO scholarship is to provide additional financial support for RN Students.

Eligibility

1. Students should be a current student of the LWIT Nursing Program.

2. Be a citizen, permanent resident or otherwise eligible to reside permanently in the U.S. legally.

3. Complete an application.

4. Cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 if scholarship is for a continuing student.

Criteria

1. Scholarship will be used to offset tuition costs for the student.

2. In determining recipients, special consideration should be given to students with exceptional need or who have overcome exceptional challenges.

3. Consider flexibility and emergency needs of students when making awards. A scholarship that may be awarded as needed, especially in response to a student emergency or crisis, may be the deciding factor for a student to continue or drop out.

4. The scholarship will be awarded for one year. Recipients are eligible to be awarded the scholarship the following year as well, but they are placed into the pool of all eligible applicants.

Ralph L. Jones Memorial Endowment

The primary purpose of this fund is to provide assistance to students putting themselves through college whose educational expenses are not completely met by state or federal grants.  The awards may be used to pay for tuition, books or other educational fees.

Rotary Club of Kirkland


2013 Kirkland Rotary Scholarships

The Rotary Club of Kirkland, Washington will award several $1,000 scholarships to selected local students for their higher education at accredited institutions. Each scholarship type recognizes students for a different area of achievement but all are designed to support students with financial need and academic promise.

Incomplete or late submissions will be ineligible. Rotary Club members will select and interview the most promising applicants from each school. Students are encouraged to apply for as many scholarships for which they qualify using the application form. Students must attend an accredited art institute, technical college or other college or university.

Scholarship winners will be recognized by Kirkland Rotary at their meeting on Monday, April 29, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. Winners must request their scholarship checks prior to December 1, 2013. Scholarship checks will be issued directly to the college or university.

Application Deadline: February 22, 2013.

Eligibility Criteria:
• Have financial need
• Have academic promise
• Have a record of school or community service
• Have promise of societal contribution
• Currently a senior at International Community School, Juanita High School, Lake Washington High School, Connections Home School Co-op, Emerson High School, or Lake Washington Technical Academy graduating in 2013, Or currently enrolled at Lake Washington Institute of Technology.

Return your completed application in a manila envelope to the LWIT Foundation office located in the West Building in room W302 by 4:30pm on February 22, 2013.  Late applications will not be accepted.  The LWIT Foundation office hours are Monday - Friday, 7:30AM - 4:30PM.

 

 

Service

Johnanna Price Service Award

Two $250 awards: One for a student (full-time) and one for an LWIT staff person (full-time). Demonstrates spirit of optimism, support, presence and care recognized and reflected in the people around them. Demonstrates exceptional service that has made a difference in the life/lives of staff and students. Special considerations: Recommendation by staff or student. Application form required only for student award.

WorkFirst

Lake Washington College Foundation WorkFirst Scholarship

The WorkFirst Scholarship is available to current or former LWIT WorkFirst students. The scholarship funds are for unexpected expenses which interfere with the successful completion of your program.

For more information or to apply for the WorkFirst Scholarship please contact Demetra Biros, Director of WorkForce Development.The WorkFirst Scholarship application is unique and not the same as the one used for all the other Foundation scholarships.

Multiple Programs

 Boeing Scholarship

Scholarships in varying amounts will be awarded to students enrolled as a full-time student in Civil Engineering Graphics, Engineering Graphics, Computer Security & Network Technician, and Machine Technology. Must be a citizen of the United States or have filed for citizenship. Award is for tuition, books and fees. Students who are members of diverse populations are encouraged to apply.
