The Global Programs and Partnerships department invites staff, students, faculty and the public to attend an open house Tuesday, May 22, for LWIT's three new visiting J Scholars from South Korea. The event will take place in the President's Conference Room from 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
LWIT's J Scholars are YoungSu Ann, EnMo Lee and SooWoong Seo.
Dr. Ann is a research fellow and the head of the Aerospace & Defense Industry Team at Korea Industrial Economics and Trade in Seoul, Korea. His primary research areas include aerospace, defense, economic analysis, and strategy management of. He holds a Ph.D. in business management, specializing in strategic management, from Korea University at Seoul. He currently serves on the Planning Committee for National Space Development with the Ministiry of Science, Education and Technology; the Inspecting T/F team of Development for Military Industry; Assessment Committee for Military Demand for the Ministry of Defense; and the Advisory Committee of Military Budget for the Ministry of Strategy and Finance. During his one-year stay with LWIT, Dr. Ann plans to analyze the international cooperation between the United States and South Korea's aerospace industries and its effects on technology education and job evolution in aerospace dependent regions. He also plans to conduct research technical and educational facility function and develop training curriculum to support national aerospace programs.
Dr. Lee is a professor in the Department of Computer Aided Manufacturing at the Seoul Jungsu Campus of Korea Polytechnics. He received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Chungnam University and has been with Korea Polytechnics since 2000, having served both as a professor and a dean of students. Professor Lee's research at LWIT will focus on vocational education and training systems in the United States and strategies to renovate the Korean industry system. His research will also include a study of career pathways for community and technical college students, CAM programming and MCT (machining center) training. Professor Lee will be with LWIT until August 2012.
Dr. Seo is an associate professor in the Multimedia Design Department at Ansan University in Korea. He is currently in the process of obtaining a Ph.D from Hanyang University in Visual Design and has received his master's in industrial design from Korea Advance Institute of Science and Technology. He will be with LWIT for one year and will be conducting research on product marketing and packaging.
