The Lake Washington Institute of Technology was originally launched as an adult education program in 1949 by the Lake Washington School District. "Friends of the VocTech" was formed in the early 1980's to meet the needs state and local funding sources could not meet and to provide a focus for volunteer activities.
Lake Washington VocTech became part of the state community college system in 1991. The VocTech changed its name to the Lake Washington Technical College and the Friends organization re-established to form the Lake Washington College Foundation.
The Foundation is recognized as a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation by the state of Washington and the Internal Revenue Service. A board of directors meets regularly to oversee the activities of the Foundation, review donations and financial reports, designate scholarships, and plan fundraising.
The Director of the Foundation provides management and leadership for investment, donor contracts, fundraising activities, and coordination with the college program and scholarship needs.
