Five Students Awarded CSI Sponsorships
Five Lake Washington Technical College (LWTC) Engineering Graphics students were awarded sponsorships into the Puget Sound Chapter of The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI).
The CSI Puget Sound Chapter also awarded two scholarships, $500 to LWTC student Patrick Hunter and $300 directly to the LWTC's CSI Student Chapter.
Hunter, from Marysville, Wash., Debbie Matthews (Sammamish, Wash.), Eli Lemanski (Bellevue, Wash.), Heather Jenkins (Renton, Wash.) and Georgeanne Smith (Seattle) are now sponsored student members of CSI. Their memberships allow the students to attend monthly chapter dinner meetings, seminars presented by CSI's Education Committee and take part in the CDT preparatory course presented by the Certification Committee, all free of charge. The Membership and other benefits awarded the students would normally cost several hundred dollars.
All five are active in LWTC's CSI chapter. Matthews serves as the chapter president, Jenkins serves as secretary and the treasurer. Georgeanne Smith is secretary, Lemanski the treasurer and Hunter the membership committee chair for the Puget Sound Chapter.
"Winning a sponsorship and being awarded scholarships like these is a big step in their professional career development," says LWTC Architecture faculty member Bob Mandy. "They are not only able to take advantage of the seminars and courses provided by CSI, but the relationships they develop will help them in their career pursuits."
"The CSI Puget Sound Chapter has been extraordinarily supportive of the students at LWTC," adds Matthews. "We are very grateful for their sponsorship, which covers membership and monthly dinner meetings. They also gave our student chapter a gift of $300, which allows us to expand the benefits and services we give to our student members."
