Dr. Kathleen Curphy Named Vice President for Academic Affairs

Kirkland, Wash.: Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWIT) announced today that Dr. Kathleen Curphy will join the polytechnic college as the new Vice President for Academic Affairs on August 13.

"Dr. Curphy comes to us with significant experience in the Minnesota community and technical college system, including years of service in academic affairs leadership and eLearning," said LWIT President Dr. David Woodall. "Her collaborative style and commitment to technical education will be a tremendous asset to our college as we continue to grow and serve our students with exceptional learning opportunities."

Dr. Curphy brings more than 20 years of progressive experience as a two-year college administrator in Minnesota, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Iowa, 11 of those at the senior level, and has served as provost, chief academic officer, and vice president. Throughout her impressive career she has been instrumental in developing and building multiple valuable programs in several community and technical colleges and fostering community, business, and faculty partnerships.

"I am passionate about the role LWIT plays in transforming our students' lives by preparing them for today's careers and tomorrow's opportunities. LWIT is the economic development engine for the community and I look forward to helping meet our community, business, and industry needs."

In her new position at Lake Washington, Dr. Curphy will provide leadership and direction for the college's academic and technical programs and services, including eLearning. In addition, she will also serve as the college's accreditation liaison officer, ensuring retention of the college's valuable regional and program accreditations.

LWIT conducted an extensive national search for the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs. A search committee comprised of faculty, staff and community reviewed close to 40 qualified candidates. Members of the college community participated in forums with the final candidates, providing feedback that assisted in the final selection.
