Dr. Marcia Wong Somer joined Lake Washington Institute of Technology this month as Associate Dean of Instruction.
"I'm looking forward to working with faculty to expand collaboration between departments, services and instruction," Dr. Somer says. "It's important to meet student needs and I feel strongly that good collaboration is vital to that goal."
Dr. Somer comes to us from Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, Calif., where she served as the Dean of English and Social Services. Before that she was the Dean of Instruction at Clover Park Technical College after serving as tenured faculty at South Puget Sound Community College in Early Childhood Education.
Originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, Dr. Somer began her career teaching human development, and received tenure in Hawaii at Kapiolani Community College for nine years before moving to the mainland to teach at SPSCC.
In her new position at LWIT, Dr. Somer will serve as the evening campus instructional administrator Monday through Thursday. In addition, she will be focusing on the continuing education program and other program areas.
Dr. Somer holds a Bachelor's degree in Human Development from the University of Hawaii, a Master's in Child and Family Studies from Washington State University, and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Oregon State University.
