International Student Insurance Information

International students are required to have medical insurance while studying at LWTech.

Medical care is very expensive in the United States. International students are required to have medical insurance the whole time they study at LWTech--including during periods of vacation and Optional Practical Training (OPT). LWTech, in partnership with LewerMark, provides international students health insurance at a low cost. Starting Spring 2014 Quarter (April 7, 2014), all LWTech international students will be required to enroll in LWTech's health insurance program. Students will have coverage that meets the requirements of the new healthcare reform law. For more information, please check out www.lewermark.com/lwtech. During Winter 2014 Quarter, students are welcome to bring in their own health insurance, but they must provide proper documentation in English that explains the insurance benefits and dates of coverage.

Medical insurance does not include dental coverage, but additional insurance plans just for dental can be purchased through Smart Smile.

  1. The LWTech insurance provider is Lewer-Mark.  Lewer-Mark insurance is $225 per quarter this academic year for students. Additional insurance for your dependent children or spouse can be purcased as well. Information about the insurance policy can be found on www.lewermark.com/lwtech.

  2. Insurance payment is always due the first day of the quarter. The coverage dates are the first day of the quarter to the day before the next quarter so you will always be covered.

  3. If you choose not to buy insurance from LWTech, you will need to bring in proof of insurance that is valid for the whole quarter on or before the first day of the quarter. If you do not bring in proof of insurance that is valid the whole quarter, you will be automatically enrolled in LWTech insurance and will be charged the full $225.

  4. With LWTech's health insurance plan, you have access to the 24 hour Nurse Line: 866-549-5076 for free medical advice. They have translators available in your native language.

  5. Lewer-Mark has a scholarship available. All students who buy Lewer-Mark insurance are encouraged to apply! The essay contest topic is: "How will an international education help me make a difference in the world?" Rules and entry forms can be found online at www.lewermark.com/lwtech.
