English As a Second Language

If you want to improve your English in order to become a better parent, worker, and community member, this program can accommodate you in day or evening ESL classes offered at the Kirkland and Redmond campuses.

All ESL and ABE classes cost $25 per quarter, regardless of the number of credits taken.

How to Begin

All prospective ESL students need to follow these steps:

  1. Fill out the intake form. You can do it on-line or on paper (if you choose to do it on paper, you will have to come to the Academic Skills Center - room T217)

  2. Take a placement test

  3. Attend a program orientation class

  4. Take a pre-test

  5. Enroll and pay $25*

In addition to regular ESL classes, our program offers:

  • Civics classes: introduce students to campus and community resources, US history, holidays, and government

  • On-line classes: help students improve reading and writing skills, review and practice grammar; students participate by submitting weekly on-line assignments

  • I-BEST (Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training): gives ESL/ABE students the opportunity to take professional-technical classes while they are still enrolled in higher-level ESL/ABE classes

    All new students need to take a placement test, attend a program orientation class, register and pay $25.
