Wine Technology

Associate of Applied Science Degree

90 Credits

Program Mission: The Wine Technology AAS degree prepares students for careers in wine production, tasting room management, restaurant wine service, wine marketing, and wholesale and retail sales.

Wine is tasted in about half of the classes so students must be 21 years of age to participate. Program includes local field trips and guest lecturers. Classes are offered during afternoon and evening hours.

Wine Technology AAS graduates will:

  • Be prepared to obtain an entry-level position in their field

  • Describe the history of wine, grape varietals, wine producing regions, and the terroir of different locations

  • Perform basic wine production and maintenance

  • Demonstrate appropriate restaurant wine service techniques and wine pairing

  • Manage all functions of a tasting room including customer service, events management, and POS operations

  • Describe wine promotional techniques, wine importing and exporting, and the wine distribution chain locally and nationally

  • Demonstrate critical thinking, teamwork, communication, intercultural appreciation, and technical and information literacy skills

  • Meet Social Science, Humanities, Written Communication, and Quantitative Reasoning distribution area outcomes

It is the student's responsibility to discuss sequencing and work out their individual schedule with a counselor or adviser. Any developmental coursework a student may be required to complete may increase the program length.
