On March 2, 2018 schools across the nation will participate in Read Across America Day, an annual event that motivates children to read. In honor of this day, the RISE Center at LWTech is hosting a service project to bring diverse and multicultural children’s literature to local children in Early Learning and Elementary School programs. All interested LWTech students are invited to participate as volunteers/readers.
On March 2, volunteers will participate in an orientation session where they will meet other volunteers and receive guidance on effective reading strategies for young children. Following this session, volunteers will put their new skills into practice and read a pre-selected book to children at the Early Learning Center on campus. Books are provided by the RISE Center, though volunteers may bring their own books, with approval.
Volunteers should be available for either of the following time slots. Please note that there are no classes scheduled for March 2.
Mon-Fri, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Mon-Fri, 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
