Public Rule-Making Hearing

June  10, 2014 at 5:00 pm

Additional session at 11:00 AM.

Proposed changes to the Student Code of Conduct

The purpose of the rule making hearing is to solicit comment on proposed changes that would:

  • Amend the student conduct code to broaden the definition of sexual misconduct to include domestic violence; allow alleged victims of sexual misconduct an equal opportunity to appeal misconduct decisions; and prohibit bullying in accordance with guidance from the Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights

  • Repeal the rules related to the Family Educational Rights and privacy, since those rights are now governed by the annual FERPA notice provided to students

  • Provide and clarify information about available scholarships

  • Clarify the financial aid program; and

  • Revise the facilities use chapter to provide additional process when trespassing visitors to the campus and prohibited conduct when visitors use College facilities.

The Board of Trustees had their first reading on March 3, 2014, and the second reading is scheduled for June 20, 2014. The Board will receive a summary of all the public comments made at the rule-making hearings as part of their decision-making process.
