Each examination is 90 minutes long, and except for English Composition, has mostly multiple choice questions. Some exams do have fill-ins. Please note that the four subject examinations in Composition and Literature also have an optional essay section that is required by some universities and colleges. If you need an optional essay, please let us know when making your appointment, as the essay must be ordered directly from CLEP. There is an additional fee of $10.00 per essay.
-
Note: The English Composition exam is 120 minutes and includes a 50-minute multiple-choice section and two mandatory online essays that students must respond to in 70 minutes. The two online essays are part of the computer-based exam and immediately follow the multiple choice section. Test takers type their reesponses in the exam software. The essay portion is scored every two weeks by college English faculty throughout the nation. College Composition is the only CLEP exam for which students do not recieve an immediate score report upon completion. They will recieve their score report 2-3 weeks after taking the exam.
