General Education Development

Lake Washington Institute of Technology provides GED (General Educational Development) testing to those who have not completed a high school diploma to earn a GED certificate. Even if you didn't finish high school, you may have the knowledge and skills comparable with a high school graduate. By testing and receiving your GED certificate, you open a door to higher education and maybe a more interesting job.

The GED is a paper and pencil test. It consists of five individual tests; Language Arts Writing, Language Arts Reading, Social Studies, Science and Mathematics. For specific GED information, click on the links below. You are required to make payment, fill out paperwork, and complete an orientation before making an appointment to test.

GED Orientation Required

  • New test-takers must complete paperwork and orientation prior to making an appointment to test. This service is available on a walk-in basis Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Please note that you must begin the orientation/paperwork by 2:00 p.m.

  • Fees need to be paid and math tutorial viewed at least one day prior to taking the test(s).

  • All test-takers may schedule appointments for Thursdays at 8:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and/or 2:00 p.m. throughout most of the year. During the summer, appointments are available at 8:00 a.m. and/or 10:30 a.m. only. Schedule is subject to change and there is no testing available on holidays. Your appointment must be made by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday of the week in which you wish to test.

  • All test-takers must arrive 15 minutes early for test sessions or they will be asked to reschedule.

GED Testing Fee

  • The fee is $75.00 to test once in each of the five subjects.

  • Retesting fee is $18.00 per test

Please pick up a Proctor Fee Card from the Assessment Center in the West Building, Room W204, prior to going to the Cashier's Office, West Building, Room W201F, to pay your fee.

GED Test Results
When you have passed all five subjects, a certificate and official transcripts will be mailed to you. This process takes two to three weeks. Please note that all subject tests are graded within 24 hours except Language Arts, Writing with Essay takes approximately two weeks to grade.

Test scores will not be given by telephone, although test-takers may call (425) 739-8115 to find out if they have passed individual subject tests. Test results will not be given to anyone other than the test-taker.
