Guidelines for Handling Student Behavior
As staff and faculty, we are faced with a variety of student behaviors on a daily basis. Student behaviors can be classified into 3 categories: Classroom Management, Conduct violation, and At-Risk. Provided here is a handout on Guidelines for Handling Student Behavior that fall in all 3 categories. Please review frequently and use to take the appropriate and necessary steps to handle student behavior.
Faculty and Staff Referral Guide
The purpose of the Faculty and Staff Referral Guide is to help faculty and staff identify possible symptoms of a distressed student and to provide some specific options for intervention and referral to campus resources. Please remember that these are general guidelines and that it is up to the individual to consider what is appropriate in a given situation. The counselor is available to assist you with problem situations and to consult with you on matters regarding your students.
Topics included in the Referral Guide include the role of faculty and staff, recognizing distressed students, guidelines for dealing with students in distress, when to make a referral for counseling, when a student is reluctant, scheduling an appointment, confidentiality, consultation services, and a list of referral resources.
