New students must apply for admission into an eligible degree or certificate program. Admission applications can be found online.
FAFSA
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

To apply for the 2011-2012 academic year (Summer Quarter 2011 through Spring Quarter 2012) complete the 2011-2012 FAFS. You will need your 2010 tax/income information.

LWIT's federal school code is 005373. It is recommended you complete a FAFSA application electronically. This is the fastest method and you will be able to receive your Student Aid Report much quicker. Paper FAFSA applications can be obtained online or by calling 1-800-4-FED-AID.
Once the Federal Processor confirms your FAFSA application has been processed, you will receive a Student Aid Report at your home address or email address if provided. If you have listed Lake Washington Institute of Technology on your FAFSA, LWIT's financial aid office will receive your electronic student aid report.

Ability to Benefit
Students who do not have a high school diploma, GED, or a 2 year degree or equivalent, must submit proof of meeting the minimum scores on an approved "Ability to Benefit" test. The Assessment Center at LWIT administers the Asset and COMPASS test which are approved tests by the Department of Education.
Verification Documentation
If noted on your Student Aid Report that you were selected for verification, you must provide copies of your Federal Tax Return for yourself, your spouse (if you are married), and your parents (if your parents information was required on the FAFSA). A Verification Worksheet is also required. Financial Aid Forms are online.
Additional Documentation
If noted on your Student Aid Report, you must clarify citizenship, selective service registration, or defaulted loan status, etc. The financial aid office may also request further documentation.
Students interested in obtaining a Direct Student Loan must complete the following steps:

First time loan borrowers at Lake Washington Institute of Technology must complete: 1) an on-line Loan Entrance Counseling session and 2) a Master Promissory Note (MPN) on-line using your FAFSA PIN number at student loans.

After completing your MPN and Entrance Counseling session, submit: 3) Direct Loan Request Form to the Financial Aid office.
