Worker Retraining Program

The Washington State Legislature appropriated funds to provide retraining opportunities for dislocated and unemployed workers in the state of Washington. The Worker Retraining Program continues to give priority service to the dislocated workers with substantial tenure.

Who may be eligible for the Worker Retraining Program?

Individuals who:

  • Are unemployed and collecting Washington State Unemployment Benefits

  • Have exhausted unemployment benefits in the past two years

  • Are displaced homemakers

  • Were self-employed and are now unemployed due to general economic conditions

  • Have been honorably discharged from military service within the last two years

The Worker Retraining Program (WRP) financial aid dollars are intended to serve displaced workers who need retraining. Each recipient must have an educational plan that consists of a coherent sequence of courses leading to reemployment. Because funds are limited, Lake Washington Institute of Technology is unable to fund all students who are eligible.
