MISSION
It is the mission of the Instructional Council to review ethical issues concerning instructional policies and procedures. The Instructional Council consists of representatives of all full- and part-time faculty and instructional administrators to discuss instructional issues and advise the Vice President of Instruction on them.
PURPOSE
The purpose of the Instructional Council is to serve as a communications link between the faculty and the office of instruction; to assist with coordination of instructional activities such as scheduling, budgeting, program planning, program evaluation, etc.; and to review and recommend for adoption instructional Board of Trustees policies and Instruction procedures.
MEMBERSHIP
Voting Members: Vice President of Instruction, 5 Deans, 2 Associate Deans, 12 elected faculty representatives (1 full-time faculty per every six full-time faculty in each division, one faculty counselor from Student Services, one faculty from the library, one part-time faculty representative, one faculty counselor from the LWIT Academy Faculty alternates who attend in place of a voting member will vote for the division. Faculty representatives shall be elected and commit to a term of two years with half of the terms expiring annually. Continued membership on the Council is contingent on participation. Failure to attend three meetings within a given quarter or four consecutive meetings shall result in the loss of membership. The vacant seat will be filled by election in the respective division.
Non-voting members: Faculty alternates from those respective areas who attend in addition to current division faculty representatives will not vote, but are encouraged to be a part of all discussions. All other non-voting members are listed on the current membership chart.
OPERATING PRINCIPLES
All actions taken by the Instructional Council shall be within the guidelines established by the LWIT Board of Trustees and applicable state rules and regulations. The Instructional Council will operate under the guidelines and tenets of Roberts' Rules of Order. Instructional Council will meet twice a month during fall, winter, and spring quarters or as needed; with no meetings during summer quarter. Special meetings may also be called and meetings may be held electronically as needed. If there is no agenda, meeting will be cancelled. Members will be provided with an agenda and meeting minutes. Each voting member shall have one vote, with the Council co-chairs voting only in the event of a tie. Fifty-one percent of the membership shall be considered a quorum. The agenda will be established by the Council co-chairs prior to each meeting. Advance agenda items will be submitted by Wednesday the week prior to the next scheduled meeting. The agenda will be emailed by Tuesday morning prior to the next scheduled meeting.
