The Opportunity Grant Scholarship

The Opportunity Grant Scholarship supports low-income student with educational training for careers in high-wage, high-demand occupations. Students in the Opportunity Grant Scholarship program may receive the following support services:

  • Tuition and fees for up to 45 credits or three years from initial receipt of grant

  • A maximum of $1,000 per academic year for books and related supplies

  • Educational, career and personal support and advising

  • Referral to tutoring, counseling, disability support and other services as needed

You May Qualify If...

  • Your total family income as reported on the 2014-2015 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) does not exceed the following income guidelines:

  • You are a Washington state resident (living in Washington state at least one year). Documenatation may be required

  • You DO NOT have a prior degree (Associates or Bachelor's)

  • You have a cumulative and quarterly G.P.A. of 2.0 or higher. In addition, once awarded the Opportunity Grant Scholarship, students studying Pre-Nursing and Occupational Therapy Assistant are required to earn a grade of 3.0 or higher in each of the pre-requisite  courses for RN, Dental Hygiene, Physical Therapy Assistant and Occupational Therapy Assistant

How To Apply

  1. Complete the 2014-2015 FAFSA

  2. Complete the Opportunity Grant Scholarship Eligibility Checklist

  3. Complete the Workforce Development Application

  4. Turn in your completed Opportuniy Grant Scholarship Eligibility Checklist and Workforce Development Application to the front desk of the Advising Office, West 207 (W207) or email your application to Opportunitygrant@lwtech.edu

  5. Printed copies of the Opportunity Grant Scholarship Eligibility Checklist and Workforce Development Application are available at the Advising Office front desk in W207

Waitlist

The Opportunity Grant Scholarship currently has a waitlist of students.  Students will be selected from the waitlist for award of the Opportunity Grant Scholarship.  Due to limited funding, being added to the waitlist does not guarantee award of the Opportunity Grant Scholarship

Basic Food, Employment, and Training (BFET) program
The BFET program is a federallly funded program designed to support students who are receiving food stamps.  Students participating the in BFET may receive book & supply assistance (up to $250 per quarter); childcare assistance through Working Connections Childcare (DSHS); eligibility for food stamps if previously denied; continuation of food stamps while in school; career and educational advising and planning. Worker Retraining
The Worker Retraining program provides tuition assistance, career counseling, academic guidance and other benefits to individuals in career transition such as laid off workers, displaced homemakers, and formerly self-employed individuals.  Military veterans, honorable discharged in the last two years, may be eligible for help with the cost of books.  For more information about the Worker Retraining program, visit the webpage at www.lwtech.edu/worker_retraining
