Student of Color Conference Application

April 18-20, 2019

The Students of Color Conference is an annual event hosted by the Multicultural Student Services Directors’ Council (MSSDC), a state-wide consortium of community and technical college multicultural directors. Each year, more than 800 students from colleges across Washington State come together at SOCC to develop leadership skills and strategies for self-empowerment.

To be considered for participation, interested students must complete an application. If selected, students will receive a full scholarship to cover the costs of attending the conference including: registration fees, transportation to and from the conference, meals during the conference, and lodging.

Conference Scholarship Eligibility

The following students are eligible to attend the conference:

  • Any student enrolled in any program at LWTech
  • Student must have a minimum 2.0 Cumulative GPA / Good standing
  • Student must be enrolled @ LWTech Winter & Spring 2019
  • Student must be free of conduct sanctions
  • Student must be 18 years of age or older
  • There are limited conference scholarships available-priority will be given to first time SOCC applicants

Conference participation for eligible LWTech students is completely free. If you submit an application and meet the eligibility criteria, all costs of attending the conference, including registration fees, hotel, transportation, and meals, will be covered by a full scholarship.

This conference is open to all students, from various backgrounds and experiences. When you let us know more about you it will better prepare our efforts in providing you support and learning while at the conference. Please answer thoroughly and thoughtfully.

Your Responsibilities

Please read and sign below 

  • I agree to attend the required SOCC Orientation meeting
  • I agree to participate in the online SOCC participant forums on CANVAS
  • I will be enrolled in classes at LWTech in the Spring Quarter of 2019
  • If selected, I will follow the rules and regulations of the conference and will accept the consequences if I do not adhere to them. I will also agree to sign the SOCC Policies and Procedures form.
  • If for some unavoidable reason, I find it impossible to attend this conference, I will inform Sheila Walton no later than 72 hours in advance by calling (425) 739-8210 or emailing
  • I understand that if I miss the conference due to a non-emergency, I will have to pay back the full amount of the cost of regis-tration ($145).
  • I understand that I am representing Lake Washington Institute of Technology and will follow the student conduct code.
  • I will make arrangements with my instructors for time/assignments missed.
  • I understand that transportation and hotel accommodations will be provided and that I must sign a travel waiver.
  • I understand that unofficial transcripts and quarterly class schedule will be printed and used to determine eligibility for the scholarship to attend the conference.
