LWTech President Dr. Amy Morrison

Dr. Amy Morrison is Lake Washington Institute of Technology's (LWTech) ninth president. She joined the college in July 2013.

A first-generation college graduate and passionate advocate for workforce education, Dr. Morrison has dedicated her career to advancing opportunities for college students and strengthening community and technical colleges as engines of economic mobility.

During her tenure at LWTech, Dr. Morrison has led the college through post-Great Recession budgetary challenges while expanding academic programs, deepening industry and community partnerships, and strengthening student support systems. Under her leadership, the college has grown its program offerings with a sustained focus on equity, completion, and empathy. In 2019 LWTech was named one of the Top 150 community colleges by the Aspen Institute, in recognition of the College's substantive efforts to improve student completion and outcomes.

Dr. Morrison is extensively involved in local, regional, and statewide initiatives, including One Redmond (now OneEastside), the Cascadia Innovation Corridor, and the Washington Technology Industry Association. She served as a Commissioner for the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) and is deeply engaged in statewide community and technical college system work as past chair of the Washington Association of Community and Technical College presidents' commission, including chairing the legislative and strategic visioning committees.

In 2025. Dr. Morrison received national and statewide recognition for her leadership, including the Association of Community College Trustees’ (ACCT) Marie Y. Martin Chief Executive Officer Award, ACCT’s highest honor for a community college president. That same year, she was named Chief Executive Officer of the Year by both the Washington State Association of College Trustees (ACT) and the ACCT Pacific Region, recognizing her sustained commitment to student success, equity-centered leadership, and excellence in community and technical college education.

Earlier in her tenure, she was recognized as the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) Pacesetter of the Year in 2017, received EvergreenHealth’s Community Service Award in 2019, and was honored with the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Department of Educational Administration Impact Award in 2020.

Prior to leading LWTech, Dr. Morrison served for nearly ten years in vice presidential roles overseeing advancement and campus operations at Clover Park Technical College. She began her community and technical college career at Bates Technical College in 1999.

Before entering higher education, Morrison served as Deputy Director in the Office of Congressman Norm Dicks, where she focused on higher education and workforce outreach.

Dr. Morrison received her doctorate in Higher Education Administration from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln in December 2013 as part of the National Community College Leadership Cohort. Her dissertation examined the importance of student completion (earning a credential such as a degree or certificate) for students pursuing workforce or technical education. She holds a Masters of Public Administration from The Evergreen State College and a bachelor's degree from Mills College.

Dr. Morrison lives in Kirkland with her family.

Members of the Executive Cabinet work directly with the college president, providing strategic direction and input.
