Early Learning Center

We care for our students. And for your little students too. You and your child can go to work or school on the same campus!

Lake Washington Institute of Technology provides complete on-site child care services for students and employees of the college. We also accept children from Kirkland and surrounding communities on a space availability basis. The Early Learning Center is a lab site for the Adult Early Childhood Education Program. With an active, hands-on philosophy, our child care staff promotes learning through experience and accomplishment.

Our classrooms operate as separate Preschool (ages 3 years and up) and Toddler (ages 18 months to 3 years) programs. We flexible scheduling options including:

  • Four or five half day options anytime between 6:45 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Four or five full day options with a ten hour maximum anytime between 6:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

We extend learning to our outdoor space as well. We have two separate, large playgrounds for the Toddler and Preschool Programs; an indoor large motor room; a shaded forest area with a large sand box; walking trails; a garden with low and raised beds for the children to play in and to care for plants; and partnerships with the Culinary Arts and Environmental Horticulture departments with quarterly cooking classes as well as visits to the greenhouse and arboretum.

Our teachers are trained in childhood development and our program models best practices in Early Childhood Education. Our child care Specialists will work individually with your child at their level of development and create an engaging and nurturing environment in which your child can thrive. All classrooms have a Daily Schedule of Activities and a Weekly Lesson Plan posted on the parent board that are created by the teachers and based on developmental goals for every child, our family’s goals, and the interests of the children. We also have a Family Handbook that will tell you more about our philosophy, policies and procedures.
