Lake Washington Institute of Technology’s Early Learning Center Receives $700,000 Award from King County Housing and Community Development Division
Jul 9, 2025
LWTech’s Early Learning Center (ELC) has been selected as a recipient of the Best Start for Kids grant, by King County’s Housing and Community Development Division. The Center will receive $700,000 in funding, a timely boost as LWTech is in the process of building a new Early Center, which is slated to open in late 2025.
The ELC provides parents with access to low-cost, high-quality childcare. The new ELC will provide a safe, modern, culturally responsive learning environment for up to 114 children, which is 50% more than the current capacity. The new ELC is being built with funding from Congressionally Directed Spending, thanks to the support of Representative Suzan DelBene; state funding through the Washington State Department of Commerce’s Early Learning Facilities (ELF) Grant; King County, with the support of Council member Claudia Balducci; the City of Kirkland for its partnership and support; and the LWTech Foundation.
“This grant is a significant investment in the future of our students and their families,” said Dr. Amy Morrison, president of LWTech. “We are deeply thankful to King County for this support, which will help us create a nurturing, high-quality learning environment for the children in our community.”
LWTech has offered childcare on campus since 1986 in an effort to meet student and community needs. We are committed to creating a safe, stable, and equitable environment through a culturally responsive and inclusive approach.
