Lake Washington Institute of Technology and University of Washington Bothell Partner to Create Direct Pathway for Students to Bachelor of Science in Nursing

KIRKLAND, Wash – Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) and the University of Washington Bothell (UW Bothell) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOU) to create a Nurse Scholars Partnership, which provides a direct route for graduates of LWTech’s Associate in Applied Science in Nursing to enroll in UW Bothell’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

“By creating a seamless pathway from LWTech’s Nursing program to UW Bothell’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, we are opening new doors of opportunity for our talented and hard-working nursing students,” said Dr. Amy Morrison, president of LWTech.

The UWB Nurse Scholars Program provides early access to summer coursework, participation in extracurricular events, and a streamlined admissions process for LWTech students. These benefits aim to enhance the student experience and ensure a smoother transition into advanced nursing education.

“The state of Washington is in the midst of a significant nursing shortage, which is only projected to get worse in the coming decade,” said UW Bothell Chancellor Kristin G. Esterberg. “To help address this growing concern, I am pleased to expand our Nurse Scholars program to include students attending the Lake Washington Institute of Technology.

“The program eases barriers to students wanting to pursue their BSN, which increases career opportunities, correlates with higher earning potential and improves patient outcomes.”

This partnership marks a significant milestone in LWTech’s commitment to expanding academic and professional opportunities for its students and strengthening workforce development in the region’s healthcare sector.

The UW Bothell School of Nursing & Health Studies offers top-ranked RN-to-BSN and Master of Nursing degree options, as well as other community, global, population and health education-related degrees.
