Classes in the Business Technology (BTE) program at Lake Washington Institute of Technology are offered on a modular basis – there are only a few classes that build on others, allowing for students to begin the program any quarter. The ideal first quarter for a BTE student will be to take BTE 111 Word, BTE 120 Business Computer Management, and BTE 106 Keyboarding I. It is a good idea to ensure that academic core requirements such as Math and English are paced through the program and not saved until the end. If you have taken college level core classes, the credit may be transferred.
Students can obtain a Business Technology Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. There are also many smaller certificates available, as shown on the following pages. Students may be admitted to any of the programs’ degree or certificates at the beginning of each quarter; spring, summer, fall and winter.
Students should seek an advising appointment with a program advisor at their earliest convenience. We have a tool that will show you when classes are offered, when it’s best to take them, and other important information to ensure that your path through the program is smooth. For academic core advising (Math, English, etc.) please contact Student Advising.
The Capstone class is taken by students pursuing a two-year AAS degree in their last one or two quarters. When you are ready to sign up for this class, please contact your program advisor for information.
Generally speaking, the two-year AAS degree in Business Technology is not a program to take if you are certain you will want to transfer to a four year degree. However, there are a couple of transfer opportunities to use all the credits towards a four-year degree. One possibility is the Transportation and Logistics Management degree right here at Lake Washington Institute of Technology or check out all of our four-year degree programs.
