You can enroll at the start of any quarter. Fall and summer are the best quarters to start to complete the program as quickly as possible based on class sequencing. The program generally takes one year of full-time enrollment to complete if students take three classes a week, 12 credits per quarter. Students have the option to extend their program and take fewer classes per week for work life balance.
The Business Technology Certificate of Proficiency prepares students to meet the growing need for Human Resources (HR) professionals. This program prepares students to use various software applications and business knowledge in conjunction with entry-level HR content areas to enhance business operations.
The Human Resources Management Certificate of Completion also prepares students to meet the growing need for Human Resources (HR) professionals. After completion of this program, depending on background and education level, a student will be able to find jobs in entry to mid-level positions as a generalist or in the specialty areas of human resource management. More experienced professionals may secure manager-level positons and get their certification credentialing credits.
These certifications are for individuals who are currently in an HR position or have experience working in the field of HR. You can apply to sit for these certification tests if you meet HR Certification Institute (HRCI®) (HRCI.org) and Society for HR Management (SHRM®)’s (shrmcertification.org) requirements. Please visit their websites for more information.
Yes. These classes cover the body of knowledge for both certifications. Our instructors and faculty are certified by both organizations. Over the last few years, we have had more than 20 graduates pass these certification exams. They said the LWTech HR program significantly assisted them in passing these exams. While this isn't a study preparation class or program, it secures the education and knowledge needed to pass both certifications.
When you join the program and take the first class, BUHR 210 HR's Role in Organization & Program Overview, there is a lab fee. This fee pays for your Society for HR Management (SHRM®) student membership. The membership is good for one year, and you can choose to continue it on your own after this timeframe per Society for HR Management (SHRM®) requirements.
All the classes are hybrid, combining in-class and online education to meet the evolving needs of our students. Typically, this means we are in class once a week in Kirkland and then work online at your own pace once a week. We are always evaluating the most successful ways to deliver the best education and experience for our students!
No. This class is two evenings the first week of the quarter. The rest is online. The other HR classes that fall on the same day of that quarter start the next week. Start dates are listed on the class schedule.
We recommend you take BUHR 210 HR's Role in Organization & Program Overview your first or second quarter, along with other HR classes you take. This is an introduction to HR and it also provides details about the program at LWTech.
