The I-BEST Culinary Arts or Baking Arts certificates prepare students for a wide variety of entry-level positions in commercial or pastry kitchens. Culinary Arts students gain experience with stations of line cooking, inventory, production of daily specials, sauce preparation and basic butchering, as well as the basic function and structure of the cold kitchen. Baking students will have a fun and rich experience for learning and growing baking and entrepreneurship skills to prepare them for the culinary industry. I-BEST Culinary Arts or Baking Arts Certificate graduates can continue studying at LWTech to complete additional certificates or degrees in Culinary Arts or baking Arts.

Fall 2021 I-BEST Course Options

How Will These Courses Be Taught?

  • Face-to-face: This course is a traditional classroom with an instructor and students in a college classroom at the same time. Face-to-face classes are located on the LWTech campus at 11605 132nd Avenue NE in Kirkland, WA. Students are required to be on-campus at the scheduled time for all scheduled class times.
  • Zoom: This course is an online classroom with an instructor and students in the same place, at the same time using Zoom. Student are required to be on Zoom and ready for class at all Zoom class times. Zoom online classes also use Canvas to share classroom materials and to turn in assignments.
  • Fully Online: This course is fully online/asynchronous. Asynchronous means that there is no specific class timeβ€”no Zoom classes and no face-to-face classes. A fully online class has an instructor that uses Canvas to communicate with students. A student learns by opening recorded videos, handouts, and other materials on Canvas. Assignments in online courses still have due dates, but a student can work at their own pace – learning and completing homework anytime that is convenient for the student.
