Funding for Student Activities
Office of Student Life provides two ways for students, staff, and faculty to apply for funding and logistical support for student led co-curricular activities. Funds are available through Student Clubs and the Event and Professional Development Funds. These are both funded by money from the Services & Activities Fee.
Co-curricular activities are an important part of a college experience. They are opportunities for students to engage in professional development and build community. The Office of Student Life's objective in providing these funding options for students is to:
- Reduce barriers for requesting event and activity funds
- Encourage students' focus on professional development and community building activities
- Provide equitable access to an increasingly limited fund, due to budget constraints
Funds Available
The 2021-2022 budget breakdown is as follows. Changes are anticipated with future budget allotments.
- $2,000 for generalized club events, small activities to engage club members.
- $3,000 for designated Community Building Events Fund. Activities that bring larger groups of people together, on- or off-campus.
- $15,000 for a designated Professional Development Fund. Activities related to professional development, on- or off-campus.
These ranges may change as clubs begin planning activities. For example, if we have more clubs interested in small activities and less interest in professional development, funds will be shifted to accommodate that need.
- Student clubs are formally recognized and supported groups of students whose purpose is to regularly engage in activities or events as a group.
- These student clubs are intended to provide places for students to build consistent community with each other, have leadership opportunities, and contribute to their professional and personal growth. Student clubs are intended to enhance their educational experience at LWTech.
- Clubs are for groups of students that want to have regular small, on-campus activities or events as a community around a common interest, program, or identity.
- These clubs do not require an advisor; Office of Student Life staff will support students with their activities.
- The benefits of being in a club include having a consistent group of students to develop community with the opportunity to be a club officer and develop leadership skills. Additionally, funding is available with minimal barriers to use for small purchases.
- Clubs can apply for additional funding for larger events or professional development opportunities. Students are not required to be a part of a club in order to apply for funding.

- Funds awarded are generally under $100.00 per activity.
- These events are designed to help the club build their community, like an event focused on the club, specifically. An event may also be planned by club members to support community connected to their group, like a community that would benefit from the club's involvement.
- Club officers may apply for funding with the funding application form.
- A student committee will review the application and determine what level of funding
may be applied to the request.
- The committee may decide to decline supporting the event with funding.
- They will award funds to requests based on their score and the amount of funds available.
- Funds awarded are generally between $100.00 and $1,500.00
- The Associated Student Government (ASG) designated funds from the Services & Activities Fee to provide funding for students to have community building events and professional development opportunities. These events and activities are intended to enhance their educational experience at LWTech.
- A student committee will review the application and determine what level of funding
may be applied to the requests.
- The committee may decide to decline supporting the event with funding.
- They will award funds to requests based on their score and the amount of funds available.
- Any currently enrolled LWTech student may request funds. Each request must have at least one faculty/staff sponsor who will attend the event/activity and one student planner. Either person can complete the application.
- Students do not need to be a member of a club or student organization in order to request funds, but clubs can also request funds.

- Funds awarded are generally between $1,500.00 and $5,000.00
Any student can request money from the Event and Professional Development Fund, but only formally recognized Student Clubs are eligible for the benefits and funds available for clubs.
Club funds can only be used for small, on-campus events or activities that cost less than $150. So, for any other kind of activity clubs will need to apply for money from the Event and Professional Development Fund.
How to determine if you should create a club:
- If you want to have frequent events or activities with the same group of students, having a club can be a helpful way to do that.
- If there is not a currently active club that aligns with your interests, you can create one. More information is available about how to start a club.
- If you only have a few events during the year, and they are larger community building events and/or professional development opportunities, it is not necessary to continue as a club.
- Any student is eligible to request funding through the Community Building Event Fund or Professional Development Fund. So clubs are only necessary for students who want to do on-going activities.
