The goal of Supplemental Instruction at LWTech is to raise passing rates for high-impact courses and increase program completion. In selected targeted courses, student SI Facilitators return to classes they have successfully completed to lead targeted study sessions. Because the facilitators have already navigated the courses on their own, they are in a good position to help other students.
In addition to helping students learn difficult material, student SI facilitators help prep for tests, model effective note-taking, study habits, time management, and other skills that will help students succeed in their classes.
Most student SI facilitators are also available during the week in the SI Study center to assist students with writing and mathematics.
Currently, our SI Leaders are providing in-class support for Math 87, Math 141, Math 90, Math 99x, English 99, MMDP 121, and MMDP 124. Note that in-class SI is dependent on program budgets and course needs—if you are a faculty member teaching a difficult high-enrollment course, and would like more information about in-class Supplemental Instruction, stop by the SI Study Center (Technology Center, T217) for more information.
