Kirkland, Wash. - The Board of Trustees of Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) voted unanimously in their June meeting to extend the rolling contract for LWTech president, Dr. Amy Morrison, to 2024. The Trustees hired Morrison, six years ago. Board of Trustees Chair, Darrell Mitsunaga, who was a Trustee when Morrison was hired comments, "We had full confidence six years ago that Dr. Morrison would lead the college in a fair, inclusive, thoughtful, and productive way, and she's done so much more during her time at the college.

Taylor, Chair of the Desmond Tutu Peace Foundation Board, and internationally renowned speaker and social activist, will deliver the 2019 Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) commencement address on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue, Wash. Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Taylor was sent to the U.S. by his mentor, Nobel Laureate, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, in 1980, to avoid imprisonment for his anti-apartheid activity. There, he served in the Diocese of New York. He later went on to be elected to become dean of the Episcopal cathedral in Seattle, making him the first openly gay Episcopal dean in the U.S. He is the Chairman of the Board of the Desmond Tutu Peace Foundation, and serves on the Board for the Endowment for Equal Justice, and was founding Chair of the Committee to End Homelessness in King County.

The event will bring community and college resources together in one location to support low-income, marginalized populations who face multiple barriers. Services will include housing, transportation, food assistance, mental health, immigrant/refugee services, health and dental care, training and education, domestic violence, disability support, and others.
Read MoreKirkland, Wash. - The annual Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) Spring Plant Sale, will be held April 26-27 and May 3-4, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the greenhouses on the LWTech campus. This popular event, which has attracted thousands of community members over the years, raises money for the Environmental Horticulture program and student scholarships. The Spring Plant Sale will feature a variety of plants grown from seed to sale by Environmental Horticulture students, including fuchsia baskets, annuals, vegetable starts, succulents, perennials, herb starts, and hundreds of bedding plants. Between 30 and 40 percent of the plant stock will be held until the second Friday to provide fresh inventory during both weekends. Free parking is available next to the greenhouses on the southwest side of the campus.
