Lake Washington Institute of Technology Students Compete in National NASA Culinary Contest
KIRKLAND, Wash. - Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech), Baking Arts students recently competed in the nationwide NASA/HUNCH challenge to develop new cuisine for astronauts to eat in space. This year, the theme was to create a hearty ethnic soup. The LWTech team was one of 33 schools/colleges from around the country who participated in the competition. The students researched and developed a Creole Gumbo that met all engineering, scientific, physical, and nutritional requirements as outlined by NASA. During the process, the team learned the effects of astronaut's bodies in space in microgravity, packaging and processing, and nutritional guidelines. The team created their Gumbo in front of a panel of judges that included local business and industry leaders, as well as a representative from NASA/HUNCH.

Lake Washington Institute of Technology Students Named to Phi Theta Kappa All-Washington Team
KIRKLAND, Wash. - Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) students Hannah Lamb and Ibrahim Ouenzar have been named to the 2023 Phi Theta Kappa All-Washington Academic Team. Lamb is working toward her Medical Assistant degree, and wants to work in primary care, so she can help others feel their best. Ouenzar is a student in the Computing and Software Development program, and looks forward to working in technical sales or software development.

Lake Washington Institute of Technology Board of Trustees Award Tenure
KIRKLAND, Wash. - During their March business meeting, the Board of Trustees of Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech), awarded tenure to Dr. Gayle Shimokura and Melissa Hernandez (posthumously). Dr. Gayle Shimokura began at the college as a member of the LWTech Foundation team, and worked as an adjunct professor before becoming a full-time faculty member. She holds a PhD in Infectious Disease Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master of Science in Public Health, also from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Duke University. Melissa Hernandez joined LWTech in July 2018 and started her full-time tenure track position in fall, 2019. She was a trained home-health nurse. She held an MSN degree and was pursuing her doctoral work in Nursing. Melissa had a passion for teaching and her students and colleagues loved working with her.

Lake Washington Institute of Technology Holds In-Person Commencement for the First Time Since 2019
KIRKLAND, Wash. - Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) will hold its first in-person commencement since 2019 this Friday, June 17, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue, WA. LWTech's commencement ceremony will also honor graduates from 2020 and 2021, and Distinguished Alumni honorees from the past two years who were unable to experience this cherished tradition due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. "Commencement is one of my favorite days of the year," said Dr. Amy Morrison, president of LWTech. "The past two years have been challenging for many, and to once again be able to gather and celebrate the great accomplishments of our graduates is something that I've so looked forward to doing. Four Lake Washington Institute of Technology Students Named to Phi Theta Kappa All-Washington Team
One Student Also Named to All-USA Academic Team. KIRKLAND, Wash. - Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) students Tabitha Arellano, Jonathan Lee, Benjamin Rawald, and Gabriela Sanchez have been named to the 2022 Phi Theta Kappa All-Washington Academic Team. Rawald was one of 20 students from around the country who was also named to the All-USA Academic Team. Arellano is a student in the Accounting Associate degree program. When her oldest son confided in her that he was nervous about being the first college student in the family, she decided to change that and start a degree of her own. Her experience at LWTech has helped show her three sons that anything is possible. Her goal after completing her degree is to advance her career in the school district where she works.

KIRKLAND, Wash. - The Board of Trustees of Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech), have awarded tenure to six faculty members: Dr. Amber Wyman, Andrea Brady, Andrew Fischer, Larry Paolicelli, and Sarah Mason, and posthumously awarded tenure to Mohamed Zerrouki. Wyman teaches general Education and Life Sciences, and holds a Toxicology PhD degree from the University of Rochester; Brady teaches Nursing and holds a MSN degree from Western Governors University; Fischer teaches Computer Security and Network Technology and holds a MS degree in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance from Western Governors University; Paolicelli teaches Digital Gaming and Interactive Media and holds a BS degree in Industrial Design - Product and Transportation from the Art Center College of Design; Mason teaches Welding Technology and is pursuing her BAS from South Seattle college. She holds an AAS in Welding Technologies from LWTech; and Zerrouki taught software development and received a M.S. in Computer Engineering from Syracuse University.

Marketing Council Honors Lake Washington Institute of Technology with National Award
KIRKLAND, Wash. - Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) has received a 2021 Paragon Award from the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR). The award, for "Communication Success Story or Crisis Communication," celebrates the college's marketing team for its work creating and implementing a robust communications plan focused around the year anniversary of the college being "Campus Zero" as the first college in the country directly affected by COVID. Stories focused on Nursing and Physical Therapist Assistant students and faculty who were at ground zero of the first outbreak in the country, and where they were one year later.

KIRKLAND, Wash. - Lake Washington Institute of Technology's (LWTech) Transportation, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management program has been ranked the 11th most affordable supply chain management program in the U.S. by University Headquarters (UniversityHQ). This is the first time the college has been included in this ranking. LWTech's Transportation, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management (TLSCM) program is designed for the working professional; classes are offered in a hybrid format, in person in the evening one night per week, and are taught by senior industry managers, many of whom are military veterans. Students in the TLSCM program can earn a Bachelor of Applied Science in Transportation, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management (BASTLSCM) and a Certificate of Completion in Business Management. The BAS degree typically takes two years of full-time study to complete.

Public Hearing on proposed revisions on Tuesday, August 17, 2021. The hearing will be held from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. and held in the West Building President's Board Room, W305E, and also on Zoom. An overview of the proposed revisions will be provided by Dr. Ruby Hayden prior to taking comments. Written comments will be accepted until 5 p.m. on August 10, 2021. Following the hearing, Dr. Hayden will prepare a memorandum summarizing the testimony. The President's Executive Cabinet will review the comments and written submissions. The new rule will become effective on September 18, 2021.

KIRKLAND, Wash. -Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) students Diandra Dunham and James Carlisle have been named to the 2021 Phi Theta Kappa All-Washington Academic Team. Dunham is a first-generation college student in the Business-DTA program at LWTech. She has been involved in leadership of the college's Phi Theta Kappa chapter where she previously served as president. Lake Washington Institute of Technology's TRIO Program Awarded U.S. Department of Education Grant for the 4th Time
Kirkland, WA. - For the fourth time, Lake Washington Institute of Technology's (LWTech) TRIO program has received a renewed Student Support Services grant from the U.S. Department of Education for $536,733 for an additional five years. LWTech's TRIO program provides tutoring, financial literacy and academic advising to more than 300 students who are low-income, first-generation (neither parent nor guardian has a bachelor's degree and neither does the student), or are students with disabilities.
