How to Apply to the BAS Public Health Program

Public Health BAS is a Selective Admission program, meaning it has specific admission criteria and a separate application process. For details on applying to the program, submitting transcripts, program funding, and other important resources, please visit the Selective Admission page. Admission: Fall quarter

Program length: 6 quarters at full-time enrollment

Important Dates and Deadlines

Fall 2026 

  • Application opens February 1, 2026
  • Priority Deadline: May 11, 2026
  • Rolling Admission Deadline: August 31, 2026

Apply by the priority deadline for first consideration! Students who apply by the priority deadline will receive a decision by the end of June 2026. Rolling admission will be available until the deadline or the program fills, whichever comes first.

Application Requirements

In order to apply for the Public Health BAS program, you must meet some specific criteria and complete required classes. Please connect with Advisor Angela Bebina for an academic plan to complete all requirements. 

  • Complete an associate degree (or equivalent) from an accredited institution
    • Equivalency means you have completed 90 college credits and English, Math, and Social Science or Humanities.
  • Have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA across all college coursework. 
  • Complete a Personal essay as listed below. 
  • Complete the following classes with at least a 2.0 GPA: 
    • ENGL&101 English Composition (or equivalent) - 5 credits
    • An additional English above ENGL&101, or CMST&220 Public Speaking - 5 credits
    • MATH&146 Introduction to Statistics (or equivalent) - 5 credits
    • College-Level Social Science - 5 Credits
    • BIOL&175 Human Anatomy or BIOL&242 Anatomy & Physiology 2 - 5-6 Credits

Students must have 15 credits of the above courses completed at the time of admission.  Students who have courses to complete at the time of admission may be admitted conditionally on a space-available basis. Most required courses must be completed before beginning program classes.

Personal Essay:

Public Health BAS applicants must upload a personal essay. Upload your essay document under the Personal Essay tab in the application. You can upload a .doc, .docx, or PDF file in the application. 

  • Essays should exhibit effective communication skills consistent with work in Public Health.
  • Essay question responses are evaluated on content, clarity of message, grammar and spelling.
  • Your essay question responses must:
    • Be typed
    • Address all parts of each question
    • Be double-spaced
    • Be a minimum of one page and a maximum of two pages.
  • Please note: Any evidence of plagiarism or academic dishonesty in your application materials will render your application unacceptable and all materials will be forwarded to the conduct officer for review and possible adjudication.

Essay: Question Option #1

In the BASPH program, students will have the opportunity to work in groups on projects similar to what they would experience in a work environment in the field. Please write a brief statement addressing both the benefits you have experienced, and the challenges you have faced working/collaborating with groups that are both culturally and professionally diverse in membership.

Essay: Question Option #2

Describe a problem you've solved or a problem you'd like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma – anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.

Accreditation

Lake Washington Institute of Technology is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities at the associate degree level and at the baccalaureate level.

 

LWTech Policies

In signing and submitting the application, you will be certifying that to the best of your knowledge the statements made are complete and true. This means that failure to disclose and submit official transcripts from all schools, colleges, or universities attended and failure to disclose and submit complete and accurate information may result in the denial of admission or subsequent dismissal from Lake Washington Institute of Technology. Your application will be considered incomplete without the required signatures.

Once your online application is completed, make sure to click the "Review Application" button. Make sure everything looks correct, then click "Verify and Submit," enter your name as your signature, and click "Submit". In the application portal, your application must show 100% complete. If it does not say 100% complete, it will be considered incomplete and will not be reviewed. Please note that 100% complete does not indicate that LWTech has received all required documents. Applications are not considered complete until all required documentation is received. It may take up to 72 hours to reflect when a document is received. Please contact Selective Admission with any questions.
