Counseling Appointment Details

Students are eligible for short-term counseling services.

  • Short-term is generally defined as less than 6 sessions. The number of sessions will be determined by the Counselor based on the student's need.
  • The Counseling Department will make referrals to long-term support as needed.

Appointment Times and Session Length

  • Appointments are available Monday - Thursday
  • Appointments available virtually or in-person.
    • In-person appointments are available:
      • Tuesdays
      • Thursdays
    • Appointments are scheduled for 50 minutes
    • Appointments are FREE for all currently enrolled LWTech students.

Waitlist

  • Because there is only 1 full-time mental health counselor, there may be a waitlist for counseling appointments.
  • In general, appointments are offered on a first-come, first-served basis by date the student submitted the Counseling Request Form.
  • For faster support and additional providers, students can also use LWTech's free 24/7 medical and mental healthcare virtual teletherapy platform, TimelyCare.

Required Paperwork

  • All students are required to review and complete initial documents prior to their first Counseling session.
  • Initial documentation will be sent via Simple Practice, our HIPAA-compliant scheduling and video platform, to the email address provided on the Counseling Request Form.
  • If paperwork is not completed prior to the session, a portion of the session will be used to complete it. To optimize session time, students are encouraged to complete this paperwork in advance.

Rescheduling (24 hours prior to your appointment)

  • Notification: If students need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please contact the counselor directly via email. It is not going to be considered as no-show or last-minute cancellations, as long as you provide 24 hours notice.
  • Discontinuation of services: Repeated failure to attend scheduled appointments or last-minute cancellations (three or more times) may result in the discontinuation of counseling services.
  • 15 Minutes: Students arriving more than 15 minutes late to a session may need to reschedule. If you arrive late, the session will still end at the scheduled time.

Simple Practice Telehealth Platform

  • LWTech uses Simple Practice as our telehealth platform for all counseling records as well as the platform for online video appointments.
  • Once a virtual counseling appointment is made, students will be provided with a link that is sent to the email address provided on their Counseling Request Form.

After-Hours & Emergency Contacts

  • Students experiencing a clinical emergency should contact 911. They may also contact Crisis Connections at (866) 427-4747 or 988.

  • LWTech's mental health counselor does not offer after-hours or crisis services.

  • Students can schedule after-hours appointments through  TimelyCare, our free 24/7 medical and mental healthcare virtual teletherapy platform.

  • Staff or students who are concerned about an emergent student issue should complete a CARE report at lwtech.edu/CARE and mark the report as “urgent.”
